Text Compare

Find every difference between two texts: added, removed and changed lines, words and characters.

0 lines · 0 words · 0 characters
0 lines · 0 words · 0 characters
Tip: Ctrl + Enter compares. N / P jump between changes.
Ignore custom text (dates, IDs, version numbers…)
Matching text is removed from each line before comparing, so lines that differ only in that text count as unchanged.

Your texts are compared in your browser and never uploaded. Share links keep the texts inside the link itself.

How It Works

How to Compare Two Texts

Find every difference in four simple steps.

Add Both Texts

Paste the original and the changed text, open files from your computer or drop them onto the boxes.

Choose What Matters

Pick word or character highlighting and ignore case, whitespace, blank lines or text such as dates and IDs.

Review the Differences

Removed text is red, added text is green. Jump between changes with the arrows or the N and P keys.

Merge, Export or Share

Copy individual changes across with the merge arrows, download a .diff patch or HTML report, or share a link.

Why It Is Different

Compare Text Precisely Privately

Many free diff checkers send your text to their servers or keep their best features behind a paywall. This tool runs entirely in your browser and uses the same minimal-difference algorithm as diff and Git, with word-level highlighting, merging and patch export included for free.

1/ Accurate Line Matching

Uses the Myers diff algorithm to find the smallest set of added and removed lines, the same approach as GNU diff and Git.

2/ Smart Ignore Options

Ignore case, trailing or all whitespace, blank lines, or custom text and regular expressions such as timestamps.

3/ Merge, Patch & Report

Copy changes between versions with undo, export a standard unified diff that works with patch and Git, or save an HTML report.

FAQs

Text Compare FAQs

Common questions about comparing text online.

It splits both texts into lines and finds the smallest set of lines that were added or removed, using the Myers diff algorithm also used by GNU diff and Git. Changed lines are then compared word by word or character by character to highlight exactly what changed.

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers. Share links keep both texts inside the link itself, after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.

They let you hide differences you do not care about: upper and lower case, whitespace at the end of lines or anywhere, blank lines, or any custom text or regular expression such as dates and build numbers. Ignored differences are treated as unchanged.

Yes. In the side-by-side view each change has arrows that copy it from one text to the other. Every merge can be undone.

A unified diff (.diff or .patch file) is the standard format for describing changes between files. You can apply the downloaded file with patch or git apply to turn the original text into the changed one.

Each text can be up to 10 MB. Live comparison updates as you type for texts up to 500,000 characters in total; for larger texts, click Compare. Extremely large texts that are almost completely different may show some sections as fully replaced.
