        All 250 countries and territories. Every country has its regions; most have further divisions, cities and towns, and many have neighbourhoods. The coverage panel shows exactly what is available for the country you pick.

        No. Selecting a country uses the country name only. To include its states, cities or neighbourhoods, choose "Its sub-locations" or "Both" and tick the types you want in the scope settings.

        From the abbreviations and alternative names recorded in the GeoNames database. The tool does not invent short forms. You can add your own aliases for any selected location.

        Each place is tracked separately with its region and country. You can add the parent location to keywords, for example "Cambridge England", either only for shared names or for every location.

        Neighbourhood records do not say which city they belong to, so the tool links each one to the city it falls within by location. These links are labelled as inferred.
