SOAP Formatter & Validator: Beautify, Minify & Validate XML

Paste a SOAP request or response to beautify it with clean indentation, minify it, or validate it. The tool checks that the XML is well-formed and that the SOAP 1.1 or 1.2 envelope follows the W3C rules, then shows the operation, header blocks and fault details. Everything runs in your browser.

Tip: press Ctrl + Enter to format.

Formatting and validation run in your browser. Your XML is not uploaded unless you use Load URL, which fetches the address you enter.

How It Works

How to Format and Validate a SOAP Message

Clean up and check any SOAP envelope in four quick steps.

Paste or Load Your XML

Paste a SOAP message, upload or drop an .xml file, load a WSDL from a URL, or try one of the samples.

Format or Minify

Beautify with 2, 3 or 4 spaces or tabs, optionally put attributes on new lines, or minify to a single line.

Review the Validation

See XML errors with the exact line and column, plus SOAP envelope, header and fault checks.

Copy, Download or Share

Copy the result, download it as an .xml file, or create a share link that keeps the XML in the link itself.

What It Checks

SOAP Messages, Beautified Validated

Most online SOAP beautifiers only re-indent your XML. This tool also checks it: first that the XML is well-formed, then that the SOAP envelope follows the W3C SOAP 1.1 or SOAP 1.2 specification, so you can spot a wrong namespace, a misplaced Header or an invalid Fault before your service rejects it.

1/ Well-Formed XML

Matching tags, quotes, entities, characters, comments, CDATA, DOCTYPE syntax and XML namespaces, with the exact line and column of any error.

2/ SOAP 1.1 & 1.2 Rules

Envelope namespace, Header and Body order, header block qualification, mustUnderstand values and Fault structure.

3/ Safe Formatting

Only the whitespace between tags changes. Text, CDATA, comments and attribute values are kept exactly as you wrote them.

Use Cases

Who Uses a SOAP Formatter?

Developers, testers and integration teams use it to read and debug SOAP traffic.

Debug API Calls

Turn a one-line request or response from your logs into readable, indented XML and find the problem fast.

Read SOAP Faults

See the fault code, reason, subcodes and detail of a SOAP 1.1 or 1.2 Fault at a glance.

Inspect WSDL Files

Load a WSDL from its URL and browse it in the collapsible tree view.

Share With Your Team

Send a link that opens the same message in the tool. The XML lives in the link, not on our servers.

FAQs

SOAP Formatter FAQs

Common questions about formatting and validating SOAP messages.

It takes a SOAP message, which is often a single long line of XML, and adds line breaks and indentation so it is easy to read. This tool can also minify the message back to one line and validate it.

No. Only the whitespace between tags is changed. Text values, CDATA sections, comments and attribute values are kept exactly. Elements that mix text and child elements are left untouched, because whitespace there can be meaningful.

It checks that the XML is well-formed (XML 1.0 and Namespaces in XML), then applies the SOAP 1.1 or SOAP 1.2 rules: the envelope namespace, Header and Body order, header blocks, mustUnderstand values and the Fault structure. It does not check your message against a WSDL or XML Schema.

They use different envelope namespaces (http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/ for 1.1 and http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope for 1.2) and different Fault formats: faultcode and faultstring in 1.1, Code and Reason in 1.2. The tool detects the version automatically.

Yes. Formatting and validation run entirely in your browser. Load URL fetches the address you enter through our server without storing it, and share links keep the XML in the part of the link after #, which browsers never send to a server.

Yes. Any well-formed XML can be formatted, minified and viewed as a tree. SOAP checks only run when the root element is a SOAP Envelope.
